UCF Interactive Performance Lab, Planet Digital, and Forterra Systems Join Forces To Create A Mixed-Reality Simu-life

Orlando, FL – May 29, 2007 – Planet Digital, the UCF Interactive Performance Lab (IPL), and Forterra Systems Inc. have come together to develop a virtual reality component for IPL’s next “Simu-life” experience. A Simu-life places ordinary people at the center of fictional stories set in the real world (think of the films “The Game” or “The Truman Show”). However, unlike these movies, the participants are completely aware that they are playing in a fictional story.

While past Simu-lifes have occurred exclusively in real-world environments such as court houses, dance clubs, and train stations, the current Simu-life will integrate virtual environments and characters within the story as well. Operating out of Planet Digital's state-of-the-art facilities and running on the Online Virtual Environment platform provided by Forterra Systems, a full cast and technology crew will bring real Orlando locations to life in a 3-D virtual world within which the participant will interact.

The Interactive Performance Lab's exploration of this “mixed reality” approach, merging real world performance with online virtual interactions, promises to offer insights into human interaction from a personal, as well as technological level.
