America Online approached Planet Digital to help them on a coordinated effort with Electronic Arts. The two companies wanted to merge the promotional materials for the new Harry Potter video game with an AOL trial version, to co-promote the companies.
In addition to programming the entire piece, Planet Digital developed original music for the background and rollovers, creating an atmosphere that worked well with all the materials included, from screen shots from the game to backgrounds and “Wizard Cards” that could be viewed on the screen or printed out. This disc was created before the movie was released, so to achieve the look and feel of the movie, Planet Digital worked closely with some of the crew from the Harry Potter movie in the UK. Of course, Harry Potter was not the only featured player on the disc. Also included were several offers to download the trial version of America Online.
AOL and EA were both happy with the outcome and distributed the discs worldwide. Each of the two companies had a strong message conveyed within, allowing it to be used as a promotional tool.
Create Magazine CD-ROM Directory (View Sample)
Create Magazine is a central Florida based publication that caters to the creative community, from job leads to innovations in the industry. They wanted to offer their readers a special interactive CD that was created just for their use and decided on a directory of creative resources, from businesses to independent artists, which could meet the needs of others in the central Florida area. Create came to Planet Digital, as they had with another similar CD project in the past.
Planet Digital came up with this interface, complete with animated background and interactive menus. We coordinated with Create as well as with those who were listed on the CD, in order to meet the needs of everyone listed. Each entrant was able to submit a clip of video or an interactive piece, which provided a challenge. After all, each company’s message was very different and every listed company or person had very specific needs within their space on the disc. Fortunately, Planet Digital was up to the challenge and succeeded in making sure that everyone’s unique message was heard loud and clear.
GatewayCard - Updateable DISC and Flash Drive Technology (View Sample) Over the years, many clients came to Planet Digital wanting to achieve better results with their CD-ROM marketing, but they were not sure how best to attain the desired results. For most clients, the top two issues were cost and how to keep their CD from becoming stale once they were duplicated.
As a solution to these requests, Planet Digital developed the GatewayCard. Making updates easy and not cost prohibitive proved to be the answer that many were looking for.
The GatewayCard allows the client to develop a presentation, whether a catalog of parts or showcase of artwork or training tool or promotional piece with special offers to preferred clients, that can be updated without having to be re-duplicated. Instead of going through the costly process of developing a new CD and duplicating and distributing each time something changes, the client can now go to a web interface and make the changes there. It can be as simple as a corrected spelling or it can be a complete overhaul, changing out videos, updating prices…the possibilities are endless! Then the next time the end user runs the CD, they click on the “update” button and their computer uses an Internet connection to retrieve the changes and load them to the CD. The International Speedway Corporation (parent company to NASCAR) wanted an interactive CD-ROM to distribute with the program at each of the races throughout the year. The CD-ROM would supply not only information about the race and NASCAR, but would be used as an advertising vehicle for race sponsors, even acting as an audio disc to be played as fans leave the track. ISC also needed the ability to update the CD-ROM for each weekly race in a record-breaking time, so Planet Digital designed and developed a data-driven CD-ROM that’s both technically sophisticated and fun to use. The interactive CD-ROM provides up to date information on the drivers, with highlights of the race and the various tracks. Over 6 million of these CD-ROMs were produced in 2001 alone, with follow-up work done for General Mills and AOL providing millions more. Features include: - Cross platform development, for both PC & MAC runtime
- Extensive use of animation, VR and MPEG video
- Database drive
