Description: This course is ideal for anyone who has a deeply established knowledge of Quark Xpress but is looking to make the leap to InDesign, Adobe's flagship page layout tool. Although it may seem a daunting transition at first, the change can actually be very manageable and even welcome if it is done in a planned fashion and with the proper amount of knowledge in the new environment. This course provides the necessary background and information to transition smoothly and effectively between the two packages.

Topics: Familiarization with InDesign for Quark Xpress users, making use of new tools, integration and approaches available within Adobe’s Creative Suite, planning projects, understanding output to PDF and other workflow enhancements.

You will learn:

  • Key features and differences between Quark Xpress and InDesig
  • Terminology and nomenclature differences
  • Importing and working with Quark documents in InDesign
  • Tools, Keyboard Shortcuts and Layout Principles
  • Managing Fonts and Linked Files
  • Workflow enhancements
  • Integrating with Adobe Bridge, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Creating PDFs
  • Planning projects and encountering real-world problems
Duration: 2 days (or 4 evenings)

Level: Intermediate (Quark); Fundamental (InDesign)
Prerequisites: A working knowledge of page layout and production artist workflow, including some knowledge of Quark Xpress.
